Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel is in negotiations to oversee the Pokemon Detective Pikachu sequel from Rob Letterman.
The long-awaited Pokemon Detective Pikachu sequel has finally found its director.
According to Deadline, Jonathan Krisel has been in talks with Legendary Pictures to take over the helm of the sequel to the smash 2019. Krisel is most well-known for his roles in TV comedies. He has created and directed episodes of IFC’s Portlandia and FX’s Baskets. He also directed episodes of Kroll Show, Man Seeking Woman, and segments on Saturday Night Live and Funny or Die Presents. The announcement was made that he would make his directorial debut on feature in the year 2019 by directing the third Sesame Street film however there hasn’t been any news regarding the project since then.

Rob Letterman directed the first Detective Pikachu and loosely based it off of the popular game from 2016. The plot followed a teenager Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his father with the help of a detective Pikachu ( Ryan Reynolds) whom only he understands. The film received a positive review for its leading actors’ performances, sense of humor, and CGI renderings of Pokemon in a real-life environment. The film made $433 million in the world and is considered to be one of the best movies in the popular genre of movie that is based on video gaming.
Nintendo’s Upcoming Films
Legendary announced that there was Detective Pikachu’s 2nd film was planned before when the first film released, however, no further information was available at the time. Smith declared that he did not expect the sequel to be released in 2021. He stated, “I think it is best to keep our hopes in the past.” It’s unlikely, I think. It’s something I hope for, though. Legendary representatives announced in the past year that Detective Pikachu2 was still under active development. It is also reported that Nintendo is near to completing work on the sequel Pokemon game. It is anticipated to be released on the Switch will launch it.

Nintendo’s next experiment in bringing their characters onto the screen is The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film stars Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy as well as Jack Black, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, and Charlie Day. The film is scheduled to be released on the 5th of April.
There is no date of release yet for the Detective Pikachu sequel.
